Does your child need vitamin
supplements?
Children need the important nutritional
elements of vitamins and minerals. The human body must obtain
nutrients from the diet because it is unable to produce adequate
amounts itself. This is especially important in children that
have a poor appetite, have erratic eating habits, if his or
her diet consists of a highly selective diet (such as a vegetarian
diet with no diary) or if the child has allergies to certain
types of foods. For children that have difficulty swallowing,
it is best to give a child chewable tablets.
The vitamins A, B, C, D, Iron and Calcium are essential for
normal growing children.
Vitamin A: is needed to promote normal growth, healthy
skin, tissue repair, and aids in night and color vision.
B Vitamin(s): promote red blood cell formation and
assist in a variety of metabolic activities.
Vitamin C: increases resistance to infections and strengthens
connective tissue, muscles and skin. It also heals wounds
and bones faster.
Vitamin D: helps aid in the absorption of minerals
one of those being calcium. Vitamin D also promotes tooth
and bone formation.
Iron: is essential for the production of blood and
it helps build muscles. Low levels of iron may increase susceptibility
to infection. Children may also demonstrate symptoms such
as depression, irritability and listness.
Calcium: is essential for healthy bone development,
especially as your child matures. The calcium intake throughout
childhood not only has an effect upon present bone growth
but, it can also help in future bone growth enabling an avoidance
osteoporosis later in life.
If taken in too large of doses, vitamins can have harmful
side effects, so it is best not to store them within reach
of your children. Consult your physician to find out exact
dose amounts that you should give to your children.
